Apolo in the cabin alone with Tiggie wrote: "Tiggie was sleeping in my bed, nice and comfortable. I made juice consisting of yogurt, one banana, carrots, orange juice, and broccoli. I had two bowls of cereal, one bowl was with blueberries. Built fire and ate right next to it. Made Tiggie some toys to play with while I ate."
I just love all his details!! Don't know why -- I must be crazy!
OK, now I gotta do one. How about: Snickers
ETA: Just an aside, but a while back I got interested in a "low glycemic index" diet, and there are two types of candy that have a very low GI, lower than most fresh fruits and all breads/cereals, and those two are Peanut M&Ms and Snickers bars. Isn't that interesting?
Plus somebody asked Apolo if he ate carbs -- and he said carbs were important to your diet but they have to be the RIGHT kind of carbs (I think he must have meant low-glycemic carbs which don't raise your blood sugar as fast -- in another place, he said his nutritionist had worked with him and they had eliminated the ups ands downs of Apolo's energy levels -- and not eating foods that spike your blood sugar, like high-GI foods, would do that. Not that anybody need be interested -- just more of my minutiae-mania...)

So, in other words elsa, that 5 pound bag of peanut M&M's I gave him in WB via John are GOOD for him, cause Julianne told me personally he was eating them and would definitely have them gone regardless of training...........whoooohoooooo...................everytime he pops one in his mouth, he's thinking of some nutty fan who is helping him win the Gold medal and he'll be thanking me on the podium.

That's right, Cindy! High numbers are bad and low numbers are good:
Peanuts - 14 Grapefruit & Lentils - 25 Peanut M&Ms - 33 Milk & Apple Juice - 40 Oranges & Peaches - 42 Kidney Beans & Sponge Cake - 46 Carrots & Green Peas - 47 Bananas & Orange Juice - 52 Potato Chips & Grape Juice - 57 Ice Cream, Table Sugar & Snickers Bars - 68 [actually Peanut M&Ms are much better than Snickers re GI] Whole Wheat Bread & Corn - 71 French Fries, Cheerios & Shredded Wheat - 75 Mashed & Baked Potatoes - 85 French Bread/Baguette & Corn Flakes - 95

Snickers: I believe Apolo once said he'd eaten 4 or 5 snickers before a race. How that didn't make him sick I'll never know! Next: Boston E.R.

Yesss! Interview from 2004:
Q: No low-carb diet for you, right?
Apolo: No – a controlled diet. I don’t believe in no carb diets. I believe people can be much healthier with some carbs, at least. The right kind of carbs, you know. It’s all about knowledge, knowing about what to put in your body. Knowing not to eat, like, five Snickers bars at World Championships in Poland. I mean, I didn’t do that! Okay, I did. But anyway! [laughs]
No idea about Boston E.R.

That would've been funny if after that race in Poland he would have threw up those snicker bars all over the ice.

I'm stumped on the Boston ER too, but my guess would be that he got hurt and had to go in the Emergency Room in Boston?

LisaM, correct! In Boston, while competing in the U.S. Championships winter 2000, Apolo took a bad spill in the 1000-meters and dislocated both knees. One he replaced himself (((shudder))) the other was taken care of in the E.R. Very good! I believe the next question is yours.
