I just posted a short video of this (on the SLC thread) just as Apolo is walking out on the carpet and grabbing his penguin -- but WARNING - the quality isn't that good but you can still make it out. Hope you are having a wonderful holiday!

I found this on Apolo's website.
Apolo becomes part of American History The National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution, was happy to announce that through December 7 - January 24, they will be displaying the speedskates worn by Apolo during his 2002 Olympic Gold and Silver Medal victories.
Noriko Sanefuji, the museum's program assistant for the Work and Industry division said, "This is an important object and will become a valued part of our national collection."
The museum is also planning to display the skates once again when they reopen in fall of 2008.

The museum is also planning to display the skates once again when they reopen in fall of 2008. He had said in an interview that he wanted something like this. Glad it came to fruition. The entire interview where he mentions this is on the USOC website. "When it’s all said and done, what do you want your legacy to be?“I used to want to be the most decorated winter athlete of all time, but now I’m tied with Eric Heiden. I don’t know anymore. I definitely want to leave my mark in the Olympic path and dream. It’s hard to say. It would be really cool to be in some sort of museum, which is actually going to happen, but that’s still on the down low. I’m donating some of the real skates from 2002, the real skin suit from when I got cut that has the blood on it still, the real helmet and the real gloves. That kind of stuff and then I have some stuff from 2006, some pictures that I want to bring. For short track, Americans had never made a final on the men’s side especially. It was never looked at like a real sport, so to have the opportunity to really shine is cool. So I’d like to be remembered for that.”The pictures are from his official website, which are alongside the article evie5 mentioned above.

seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/living/2004095056_reality300.htmlHere's a portion of the article (namely the part about Apolo). You can click on the link to read the whole article. Reality royalty: Local heroes go from who(?) to hot (!) By Pamela Sitt and Nicole Tsong As 2007 winds down, so does the clock on the 15 Minutes of Fame-O-Meter. By this time next year, Sanjaya's pony-hawk will be a distant memory (we hope). Washington state had a decent showing on reality TV this year, from the speedskater with all the right moves on "Dancing with the Stars" to breakout performers on "American Idol" to the guy who came thisclose to hearing The Donald say, "You're hired." With awards season just a hop, skip and a red carpet away, we want to take a moment to recognize the achievement of our own fleeting celebrities: The Reality-TV All Stars of 2007. Cue weepy, instrumental music from the Oscars' "In Memoriam" montage: Best Performance, Gliding Around the Ballroom Floor Like It's a Short-Track: Apolo Anton Ohno on "Dancing With the Stars." You know him as: The soul-patched, Seattle-bred short-track speedskater and Olympian who out-shimmied the ballroom competition. Where is he now? Back on the ice training for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, recently competed at U.S. Senior Short Track Speed Skating Championships.

Nice to see Apolo's website being updated recently. This morning I see that the dates for the Feb 1-3 World Cup in Quebec; Feb 8-10 World Cup in SLC and the March 7-9 World Championships in South Korea have been posted on his home page. If you haven't been there recently you will also see that he has updated the Night With Apolo picture on the home page.
