Yaay! This was just posted on ApoloAntonOhno.com.... Probably should have gone in the news thread for that site, but I thought it was something we could all discuss and be happy about... And then post pictures when they come in (*fingers crossed*). Any Hawaiian posters? I sometimes forget where you all are from... but there will be a photo op with guests, if you're there!

What are the Victor Awards? Is it a local thing or might it be telecast where we can all see it?

Once again, Google is my friend: The Victor Awards (formally known as the 40th annual Academy Of Victor Sports Awards) recognizes a wide array of both professional and amateur athletes and coaches and honors them for their achievements. Fox Sports will cover it...I'm not sure if it will be live or tape. Fellow Olympian and gold medal winning snowboarder Seth Westcott will also be there. How lucky for Apolo that it's in Hawaii this year. Maybe he can spend a some extra time there. He gets to see his friends Kimo and Jan, too...that's great! And can he really surf? That's not one of my own talents, lol...put me up on a surfboard and I will immediately impress you by how quickly I fall off of it. As for the fans...let's just pray that there are some beach photos! But anything will be nice. I think that he was overlooked by the ESPY's this year (another sports awards presentation.) {{shrug}} I think that he won more medals than any of their Olympic nominees, so who knows.

Thanks for looking that up, susie! "Sunday, July 30th Free day....Island Tour, Surf or Diamond Head Hike." This supports the idea to me that Apolo can (or would like to) surf... lol... Of course, knowing Apolo he wouldn't have any trouble taking it up if he didn't know how already...

Lindsey, thank you for this info! Susie, I think it's wonderful that Kimo and Jan started out as Apolo's fans, and now also have a friendship and business relationship with him. They seem like such a lovely couple, from their posts on the OhnoZone. Peggy, if you haven't tried this already, you may need to hit the "F5" button on your keyboard to see the latest info on Apolo's site (I think that's the correct key). I've had that problem there a couple of times before and that worked, so I hope it works for you, too.

Laura, I just entered "Victor Awards" in the search engine at the TVGuide.com listings for my viewing area and got some info that mentions Apolo, but no air date. I wonder what that means. It said that there were "no airings in the next 14 days," so I'm hoping that just means that it will be airing at a later date. Here's the description mentioning Apolo: Victor Awards:From Honolulu Premise: The 40th annual awards show in Honolulu salutes elite sports personalities from the past 40 years. Included: Muhammad Ali, Carl Lewis, Mark Spitz, John Wooden, Rick Barry, Bruce Jenner and Gordie Howe. Also honored are U.S. gold-medal winners from the 2006 Winter Games, including speedskater Apolo Anton Ohno and skiers Ted Ligety and Julie Mancuso. Host: Chris Myers. Rating: None

I looked and looked for something about this years Victor Awards, but all I could find was from 2002 when Apolo was also honored. Part of what I found is below. It is not what I was looking for, but it explains something about the awards.
"The VICTOR AWARDS is the longest running nationally televised sports awards program in television history. Considered the Academy Awards of athletics, the Victors consist of more than 35 awards spanning 15 sports, honoring the country's most outstanding professional and amateur athletes and coaches. The award winners are voted on by the National Academy of Sports Editors, comprised of a cross section of sports editors, writers and broadcasters. The Victor Awards consistently attract sports legends and famous presenters. For 38 consecutive years, the Victors have benefited the City of Hope and raised tens of millions of dollars to perpetuate the major medical research and care being done there on a daily basis. The City of Hope is a National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center located in the Greater Los Angeles area, and is one of the world's leading research and treatment centers for cancer and other serious diseases including diabetes and HIV.
Fox Sports Net televised the event, which will be rebroadcast on the network. Check local listings for dates and times.
