Wow TEAM GA -- THANK YOU FOR ALL THE COVERAGE. I love the picture of Apolo and JR shaking hands -- "Here's looking at you, kid." And the reference to Lion King - Apolo does have his lion's mane of hair going on.
And I loved seeing wags and debbie's pictures!!! Can't wait to hear their stories when they get a chance.

OK I see where the pic of Apolo and JR shaking came from. Wow! These are great! Old Ho Suk had this coming. He played 2nd fiddle to Apolo and Hyun Soo for years and didn't get any personal medal in the Olympics. That outside pass (wow!) at the last turn of the 1500 was awesome. And his times in the semisfinals.......I remember the first time I saw him skate and those incredible series of crossovers DOWN THE STRAIGHT. Amazing. But in the looks department, ummm no for me. Apolo's beautiful and intense face on that ice have no equal. And JR is a cutie! Yup, this is a very very exciting time for Team USA. I think Apolo will bear down even harder....he's never one to give up. He's going to focus even more intensely, and as he's said often, sometimes it's just not your day. He has one World Championship, and it was a long time coming. SusanG

I can't believe Jerry Search has never done that shot. Gives the relay a whole new point to ponder.

Here's that German-English article translation:
The Hollywood star among the Short-Trackers
Apolo Anton Ohno is the big star of the Short-Track World Championships in Vienna – from Friday to Sunday Vienna can see one of the rare performences of Apolo Anton Ohno. The US-American has been the star of the international Short-Track world for about 10 years and he’s become famous for his ambivalent character apart the ice. The 26-year old has even gotten some offers from Hollywood, but he doesn’t want to quit with his sport so fast.
Rare performances
However Ohno can’t be seen with full dedication as often as he was seen once. So he gives his concurrence less opportunities to make video-studies of his style of skate. “Now I only give my best if it’s nessecary. In most cases I test new strategies.”, the Olympic Champion in 1’500m of Salt Lake City 2002 and in 500m of Torino 2006 told. In Vienna it surely will be nessecary (to give his best).
The four-years-star
Ohno became the first time US-champion 12 years ago. Now he wants to continue his career for about five or even ten years. However till the Olympics in Torino it was only reported about him every 4 years; in the United States there are sports that aren’t so popular.
Charisma and look
In spite of this, Ohno’s popularity raised suddenly two years ago when he won at “Dancing with the Stars” with the pro-dancer Julianne Hough. It is the US-version of the Austrian programme “Dancing Stars”. “It was incredible how popular this show was”, the “blade”-ace said. He’s the son of a Japanese and was grown in Seattle. “My fame raised immensely.” Ohno impressed not only with his dancing abilities, but also with his look, charisma and his stage-presence.
Hollywood can wait
“I will also have the possibility to become an actor or something like that later”, the athlete who was born at May 22th 1982 commented about changing his occupation. “Now I’m still healthy and I’m young enough for Short Track”. Ohno has the possibility to become the most successfull US-winter-athlete – couned on the number of medals. The ice speed skater Bonnie Blair is currently the best with 5 gold and 1 bronze medal.
Son of an haircutter with initial difficulties Ohno has two Olympic gold and bronze medals and one silver medal. At the begining of his career the student didn’t think that he would come so far. His father – owner of a barbershop – enabled him in 1996 that he was thought by Pat Wendtland who was wellknown in Lake Placid. The beginning was not easy: he missed the Olympia nommination for Nagano 1998 when he finished 16th at the US-Trials.
Failed in Southkorea
In 2001 he had his sporting breakthrough when he won the „Worldcup-Grand-Slam“ with his victories in 500m, 1’000m and 1’500m and the overall ranking. About the gold medal of Salt Lake City there were some discussions, because he won due to the disqualification of the South Korean Dong-sung because of a blocking. Ohno became the most hated athlete in South Korea then.
Strange finish
The Olympic title of the Korean Ahn Hyun-soo in Torino was therefore celebrated immensely by the Asians especially because Ohno only reached the B-Finale. But he corrected his “mistake” with the title in the 500m. Incredible is also the desicion of the 1’000m in 2002 when all the participants of the finale - inclusively Ohno - fell. Only Steven Bradbury who was behind them didn’t fall. The Australian crossed the finishing line and got Olympic Champion. Ohno was the fastest to stand up and took silver.

Hey guys! We're back and just let me say it was a TRIP OF A LIFETIME. Loved every minute of it! I promise to get back often over the next few days to post more details but I'm jet-lagged like crazy and I have my days and nights mixed up. It's 4:30 AM here an I need to get back on schedule. I've been trying to post some pics with no luck. But I'll keep at it and have them up tomorrow. (can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. maybe just too tired) I'll go through the thread and try to answer all questions ASAP. Universal Sports is supposed to air the races starting tomorrow today. Let's hope you get to see all the action, and there was plenty of that!! Feel free to ask questions and I'll answer the best I can. Just a few teasers because I'm mean. I got a few very good pics of the team in warm ups Thursday. Now if I can just get them posted! The venue was very good for the skaters. Not so much for the spectators. Reminded me very much of Vancouver. Not a spectacular seat in the house if you want to be 'up close and personal'. But very adequate for watching the races. Yes...we were the USA cheering section!! It was all of Debbie, Joyce, Melissa ( the young girl in the front) and me! I did somehow pick up a fella that followed us around the last day and seemed to have a crush on me. Too bad he was about 11 years old!!! But a voice is a voice and he did help us yell for our guys. He couldn't speak English but he learned to scream "GO J R" real quick! Sorry I missed you with the call Lori, but we just wanted you know Blake was OK. We knew the weekend was over for him, but he might be alright *fingers crossed* for next weekend. (if NZ has a team there) Fortunately not too many bad injuries. Just Blake, the Korean girl and Jeff! Everyone else was just shaken up a bit. That's all for now. I promise to get my photos up very soon even if I have to call the Geek Squad!!! Good night, morning, day...whatever!!! See you soon.

I just wanted to stop by and tell you that we all had an absolutely wonderful time. It far exceeded my expectations. I am so proud of Team USA. They are truly a great bunch of young athletes. I will let Wags in her inimitable way fill you in on some of the details of the trip! GO TEAM USA!
It is 6:15am, I feel like Cinderella and the party is over and it is time for me to get ready for work. Back to the real world. :-(
