Hey guys - I'm off to Vienna tomorrow! We'll have a few days of sightseeing then...."The Worlds". I've been practicing my German for the past several weeks. So far I can say please, thank you, excuse me, I didn't know that was illegal here and I need an attorney! I'll do my best to get a few pics to share, but NO action shots!! If you think mtnme has 'a way with photos', I can show you some bad photography. At least she can have an exciting round of Name That Blur or Name That Skate Blade. Mine would be more like Ice or A**, or Who's Finger Is That? I'll try to stay in touch but have no idea what constitutes wireless access in Austria. Talk to you guys in a week or so!

Have a wonderful trip, Wags! Don't worry about the action shots -- just get lots of photos of smiling US skaters on the podium! I'm so glad that we'll have fans over there who can make sense of the blinking numbers for us, LOL -- and who will also be cheering for our skaters. GO TEAM USA!

OMG, Wags, you are too funny - please make sure you take enough bail money... after all the ST travel this season our funds are depleted and we may not be of much help, but we'll do what we can if necessary...

Wags, have a safe trip and a wonderful time. Let the guys/girls know we're all there in spirit. Cheer loud enough for all of us. Can't wait for your first hand account.
"I didn't know that was illegal" -- too funny!

Wags that is fabulous! Hope you have time to see the Spanish Riding School. And don't forget that most important phrase: Wo ist die damen toiletten. Not sure of the spelling but you get the point. If I had known you were going I would have definitely sent you "The Lord of the Rink" banner. Apolo signed it and has seen it at many competitions.....well, I'll send it to the Olympics but thanks for being our eyes, ears and mouths at this comp. ;D

Here's the article. After I got a third of it translated myslef, I had to ask someone at another forum for help (please excuse the mistakes):
Short Track: World Championships in Vienna with an international novelty
The Short Track World Championships in Vienna that begin on March 6th contain a novelty: for the first time the World Championships won’t be held in an ice-stadium – it will be held in the Ferry-Dusika-Stadium.
Short Track: dynamic and tempo © EPA
The decision was made in November after an inspection of the international skating association (ISU). Before that the Albert-Schultz-Hall – the Ice Hockey stadium of the Vienna Capitals - was planned to be the place to hold the World Championships. The Short Track World Championships were held there in 1998. The new place caused a sensation in the Short Track top nations; this project is followed with interest. Therefore a delegation of the Olympic Games in Sotschi 2014 announced its inspection this Saturday.
Since Sunday – a day after the Austrian athletics Indoors Championships – the event has been prepared. There will 171 athletes of 33 countries participate, which is a record for the World Championships. The host country will send 3 athletes: Vernonika Windisch, Andre Pulec and Matthias Stelzmüller.
[the next paragraphs are about the Austrian skaters. It doesen’t seem to be very interesting.]
On Thursday the preparations of the hall were almost ended. They began to spray on(?) the ice. The boss of the Dusika-Stadium Johann Hagmann explained: “If everything goes as we planned, the athletes could beginn with the ice-practice on Monday.” Hagmann has the same goal as Alexander Zimmermann: “We want to arouse the Dusika-stadium.”
In 1998 there was an avaerage of 1500 to 2000 spectators every day, which was surprisingly good, since at that time Short Track was less popluar that it is today. The similar number of spectators would be very satisfactory. A ticket for a day costs 7 Euro, children till 15 years have free admission. The competition begins on Friday March 6th and Saturday 7th at 12.00, on Sunday March 8th on 11.00. The end of the competition is expected to be at 5.30 p.m.
There will surely be a lot of cheering, since some school classes were already invited. In addition, the embassies of the top Short Track- countires – China, Japan, South Korea, USA, Russia and Hungary – announced their participation with “loud” delegations. The most enigmtic character of the athletes will probably be Apolo Anton Ohno. The American was Olympic champion in Salt Lake City in 2002 and in Torino in 2006.
