Don't forget Germany -- they got advanced. Five teams in the final! It's going to be wild out there. I have faith in our guys, though. I'm pretty sure that relays don't count toward individual results. We still have the 1000 and the 3000, though. LOL, Mtnme! I love your emotie -- that was me this morning, too! We have beautiful weather in Maryland this weekend, so I'm going to try to enjoy some of it as well. Enjoy your day!

The heat is on: Meng and Ohno want to get revenge07/03/2009 - The second day of the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in the Ferry-Dusika-Stadion in Vienna will bring the decision over 500 meters for ladies and men. Especially two skaters want to get their revenge: Defending champions Apolo Anton Ohno (USA) and Wang Meng (China) got nothing yesterday with Apolo finishing fourth over 1.500 meters and Meng winning the race but being disqualified afterwards. Also last year's men Silber medallist, Charles Hamelin (Canada), was stopped by a disqualification in yesterday's semi final. Before the competitions of the second day, 1.500 meter World champion Min-Jung Kim (Korea) leads in the ladies' overall classification, compatriot Ho-Suk Lee in the men's clasification. The competition will start at 12:00 o'clock (GMT+1) today with the ladies' preliminaries. In the first men's preliminary at 12:50, Austrian local hero Andre Pulec has to beat US-american athlete J.R. Celski, who won the Bronze medal yesterday if he wants to advance to the Quarter Finals. This all ensures a thrilling second competition day in the Ferry-Dusika-Stadium. ____________________________________________________________________________ Other than the relay, Apolo didn't get any revenge today. It's all yours tomorrow big guy!!!

Short-track speedskating Celski is 3rd, one place ahead of Ohno, in 1,500-meter final at world championships: J.R. Celski of Federal Way placed third in the 1,500-meter final Friday at the world short-track speedskating championships in Vienna, Austria. Five-time Olympic medalist Apolo Ohno, 26, of Seattle was fourth in the final, won by Lee Ho-suk of South Korea in 2 minutes, 20.967 seconds. Kwak Yoon-gy of South Korea was second in 2:21.078 and the 18-year-old Celski's time was 2:21.133.

You're right, Susie, the relay doesn't count toward the Individual Championship. Some things to look for tomorrow: 1) Only the top 8 skaters (in points) at the end of the 1000M have the opportunity to gain more overall points by skating the 3000M Superfinal. 5 of our 6 skaters are now sitting in the Top 8 - hopefully Jessica Smith will have a BIG 1000M tomorrow and have the chance to compete in the 3000 as well. 2) At the end of the day, we want to see at least 2 men and 2 ladies in the top 16, so that we can qualify to enter three individual skaters in next year's World Championships (most countries only get 2). J.R. and Katherine have already met the second requirement - one of those Top 16 men and one of those Top 16 ladies must have earned Final Points. What an awesome pic, aofreak!

I JUST MISSED A CALL FROM WAGS! She did leave a message, though - I had been concerned about why Blake Skjellerup (NZL) dropped off the map in the 500M prelims and his DNS in the heats despite being advanced, and she had news about him. He had to be taken away by ambulance, but it appeared to be something like a collarbone and he was going to be okay, but the competition is probably over for him. She also said that Eun-Ju Jung (KOR) was apparently quite seriously injured in the 500M Heats. She didn't give any details, but said that it looked pretty bad.

I don't know the exact math (I'm too lazy to calculate. LOL) but I'm guessing that Apolo has to at least win either the 1000 or 3000 and finish second in the other. But he really needs to win both. Actually, he has to win both. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Kwak is leading in points (42). If Apolo wins both races he will have 76 points (8+34+34); if Kwak is second in both races he will have 84(42+21+21) points. 1st = 34pts 2nd=21pts 3rd=13pts 4th=8pts this is the simplest way to work out combinations.... looking forward to a bright day of great racing on Sunday ;D Hey mntme see everyone in the morning........my inner clock is still on french time, this spring ahead is helpful for a change
