Travis Jayner of the United States leads the race during the men's 500 metres final of the ISU World Short Track World Cup 5 in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009. Australia's Tatiana Borodulina, Jessica Smith of the U.S, Canada's Marie-Eve Drolet, Czech Republic's Katerina Novotna, Japan's Mika Ozawa and Italy's Arianna Fontana compete during the women's 1500-metre final at ISU World Cup Short Track 2008/2009 in Sofia February 7, 2009. Lee Ho-suk of South Korea (166) leads his compatriot Lee Jung-su (167), Jordan Malone (L) of the U.S. and Yuri Confortola of Italy on his way to winning the men's 1000-metre final at the ISU World Cup Short Track 2008/2009 in Sofia February 8, 2009. Francois-Louis Tremblay of Canada (117) leads Britain's Jon Eley (131), Jeff Simon (197) of the U.S. and Sung Si-bak of South Korea during the men's 500-metre final at ISU World Cup Short Track 2008/2009 in Sofia February 8, 2009. It's hard to tell for sure, but I think that's Kimberly Derrick in 3rd. Korea's Eun-Ju Jung leads the pack during the women's 1500m final at the 2009 ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Sofia on February 7, 2009. Korea's Eun-Ju Jungwon the gold medal followed by US Katheine Reutter, silver and China's Yang Zhou, bronze.

. speedskating.teamusa.org/ Samsung ISU World Cup Short Track: Sofia (BUL) 6-8 February 2009 International Skating Union - USA Speed Skating February 09, 2009 The 2008-09 Samsung ISU World Cup Short Track season resumed for the penultimate round this weekend in Sofia, Bulgaria. This was the first World Cup of the season were no single country dominated the medal count. In fact, it was an evenly matched medal tally among the usual contenders: Korea (8 medals), Canada (7 medals), China (6 medals), and the United States (5 medals). The other teams to leave Sofia with medals were Italy (2 medals), Great Britain (1 medal) and Germany (1 medal). This weekend's Samsung ISU World Cup Short Track schedule had the athletes compete in the 1000m distance twice. Once again, the Chinese ladies showed their strength in this distance, with Meng Wang wining the first of two 1000m events. Her teammate Qiuhong Liu took second place in both of the ladies 1000m events. Kalyna Roberge (Canada) took third place in the first event. In the second ladies 1000m, it was Korean Min-Jung Kim to take the win, and Kimberly Derrick (USA) finishing third. With her fifth win of the season, Meng Wang consolidates her lead in the World Cup distance classification. On the men's side, it was the Korean skaters to show their strength by winning both 1000m events. Yoon-Gy Kwak took the win in the first 1000m event, while teammate Jung-Su Lee took second place. Francois-Louis Tremblay of Canada finished third. In the second men's 1000m event, it was Ho-Suk Lee to win, ahead of Jordan Malone (USA). Third place finish went to Korean Jung-Su Lee. In the ladies 500 meters, the Chinese streak of wins in this distance was ended by Canadian skater Jessica Gregg, who finished first. Second place went to the 2009 European Champion, Arianna Fontana of Italy, while third place went to Xiaoxue Meng of China. With the win, Francois-Louis Tremblay leads the World Cup distance classification. In ladies 1500m, Eun-Ju Lee (Korea) took the win ahead of American skater Katherine Reutter. JR before he had to scratch for the weekend. The ladies relay Kimberly Derrick. The ladies get no 'love'. No podium pictures for Kimberly, or the Women's bronze for the relay...and only a small fuzzy one for Katherine. *heavy sigh* Jordan on the podium for his Silver Medal win at World Cup 5, Sofia, Bulgaria 2009 Jeff on the podium for his Bronze Medal win at World Cup 5, Sofia, Bulgaria 2009
