Great job on the relays for our girls. Our guys went from first to last between laps 11 and 12---they managed to gain some ground at the end, but not enough for a qualifying finish. Still, they gave it a good run there at the end. "See" everyone back here tomorrow at 8:03 AM Eastern for the main event. Repechage for those interested start at 2:45 AM Eastern I believe. To quote Eddie Izzard...it's all so very 'Prussian' isn't it? "You VIL not cross-track - nicht!" "You VIL not impede - nicht! 'You VIL not pass without at least 4' to spare" -ja? "You VIL skate in a straight line, and you VIL like it!" Oh, how I've missed that emotie!

Well, JR can check off one more shining accomplishment - his first senior-level individual medal - and a GOLD, no less! ("KNEE? What knee? I don't have no stinkin' hurt knee!" ) ;D Congratulations, JR! Gold is definitely 'your color', and I predict you'll be wearing it often! ;D

...and speaking of those knees...along with the rest of him.... JR waiting to be introduced. JR at the front of the pack. (yeah, that's him all blurry and all...these rival my pics - and I had to clean it up in the photo software first too! LOL) There were a bunch of photos on the website for today - and hardly any of them having anything to do with skating.

Dont know why the DQ issue has me so intrigued with this meet but since I made my earlier post, I thought I'd follow it up with some "research" today. Seems I wasn't counting the DQs in the previous WC correctly...trust me, ya just don't want to hear that whole story but there are usually more than I earlier thought. Even with that, this WC seems to be heavy on the DQs. As an example, there were a total of 55 DQs in the Sofia WC (including Reps and Team DQs). As of the end of today, there have already been 62 in the Dresden WC with one more day of racing to go. I'm no math major but I think that means we're headed to a record of some kind here!! It seems that there must be a specific German ST rule that if one skater slips and/or falls, another skater must be punished Ok, I'll shut up about DQs now Happy Valentine's Day!!! ps, yes, I can't help myself. I'll be counting them tomorrow too.

No official results up for the men as they aren't being posted and for a few minutes there, the blinking numbers weren't working either... ...so I'll have to edit this post later. At first blush, it looks like Travis moves on..(I missed Anthony's heat, so I dunno - bad mtnme, no biscuit...) For the 1000m ladies- Kimberly, Katherine and Jessica all make their rounds...but that's not official. The men are doing their thing as we speak. And man, they're just moving these guys along...hardly any wait between races.... EDIT: for the 1000m men, JR is the only US skater and he appears to have come in first... ....this is SOOOOOOO aggravating....

For short track speedskating, Team USA struggled with disqualifications and falls for the second weekend in a row. Competing in the final world cup event for the short track season in Dresden, Germany, both Jordan Malone (Denton, TX) and Maria Garcia (Carson, CA) fell during the 500m and were pulled from the competition due to injuries. But J.R. Celski (Federal Way, WA) earned a gold medal for his performance in the men's 1500m with Ryan Bedford (Midland, MI) coming in at fourth place. Katherine Reutter (Champaign, IL) earned a second-place finish in the ladies' 1500m, with Kimberly Derrick (Memphis, TN) finishing in fourth place for the same event.
The ladies' relay team will compete in the A finals on Sunday against teams from Korea, Italy and Hungary. And although the men's relay team qualified for the semi-finals, they did not qualify for the A Finals.
