Speedskaters place in top tenFour USOEC speedskaters placed in the top 10November 05, 2008 MARQUETTE— Four United States Olympic Education Center short track speedskaters finished in the top 10 at the second American Cup, Nov. 1-2 in Cleveland, Ohio. For the women, Northern Michigan University senior Cherise Wilkins (Syracuse, N.Y.) took fourth place overall with 1882 points. NMU freshmen Kristen Biondo (Broadview Heights, Ohio) placed sixth with 1631 and Erin Bartlett (Lakewood, Ohio) took the 10th spot with 638 points. Making the top 10 for the men was NMU junior Levi Kirkpatrick (Hills, Iowa). He placed eighth overall with 1102 points. Remaining competitorsfor the women included NMU sophomore Tamera Frederick (Park Ridge, Ill.), who placed 13th with 390 points; and Marquette Senior High School juniors Kathleen Russell (Petoskey, Mich.) and Sarah Burg (Alpena, Mich.) Russell and Burg placed 23rd and 26th with90 and 82 points. On the men’s side, NMU sophomores Kyle Carr (Atlanta, Ga.) finished 16th with 236 points and Levi Sinak (St. Louis, Mo.) finished 24th with 96 points; freshmen Barry Winslow (Midland, Mich.) finished 17th with 182 points and Dan Fiorenza (Wausau, Wis.) finished 19th with 131 points. The speedksaters will next travel to Bay City, Mich. for the U.S. Junior Championships Nov. 14-16. PICTURE:
