We can all see that #1 is in withdrawal after she lost her st virginity last weekend....er, I mean, she went to SLC (or was that Emerald City...'we're off to see the wizard') but unlike dorothy, i was saying, 'i DON'T want to go home'.

Hey y'all I just got back from trying to help set up one of two b-day parties for a nephew and a niece, and I had to come check for results. The parties are both tomorrow, and they are one right after the other. I will be here tomorrow for sure.

Six Canadians qualify for 500-metre quarters at short-track World Cup event 52 minutes ago
VANCOUVER, B.C. — Six Canadian short-track speed skaters qualified for the 500-metre quarter-finals at a World Cup event Friday at the Pacific Coliseum.
On the men's side, Francois-Louis Tremblay of Montreal, Que., was second-fastest in the heats, Olivier Jean of Lachenaie, Que., was fourth and Francois Hamelin of Ste-Julie, skated to the fifth-fastest time.
"We all had good times in the first round," said Hamelin. "We were all first on the start line, so it was the strategy that made sense: go out fast, make sure you stay there, so you don't need to risk passes."
It was a similar scenario for the women, as Jessica Gregg of Edmonton, Marianne St-Gelais of St-Felicien, Que., and Anne Maltais of Quebec City were all able to qualify for Sunday's quarter-finals.
Hamelin and his brother Charles, along with Tremblay, also qualified for Saturday's 1000-metre quarter-finals.

Hamelins gear up for Vancouver Olympics MATTHEW SEKERES From Saturday's Globe and Mail October 24, 2008 at 11:00 PM EDT
VANCOUVER — The well-worn Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver's east end is a far cry from suburban Montreal, but for Canada's first family of short-track speed skating, it is beginning to feel like home.
The Hamelins of Sainte-Julie, Que. — father Yves, the top short-track official for Speed Skating Canada, and sons Charles and François, both Olympic hopefuls — first came here in July, and will be frequent visitors between now and the 2010 Winter Games.
So frequent, in fact, that in their ongoing quest to replicate the Olympic environment, they are now friends with a chef at a downtown hotel near the proposed athletes village. The chef works with the Hamelins' nutritionist to prepare meals for the Olympic hopefuls when they are apart from their mother's home-cooking.
"People here at the [Pacific National Exhibition], at the hotel, and at the [regional sports excellent centre in Vancouver] have been so great," said Yves Hamelin. "The gameplan is to be here as often as we can."
This weekend, the Pacific Coliseum is the site of an International Skating Union World Cup event, a competition that also serves as a test for the 2010 Games. The Coliseum, which underwent a $19-million renovation for the Olympics, will be home to short-track and figure skating in February 2010.
It has been fitted with new ice-making equipment and other upgrades, but the athletes have given it a lukewarm reception, claiming the ice isn't the best and that the dressing rooms are older.
Certainly, it doesn't compare to the brilliant new venues at Beijing's just-past Games, but the Vancouver Olympic Games Organizing Committee officials say spectators will be tight to the action.
Yesterday, Charles Hamelin moved into the quarter-finals in one 1,000-metre event but was disqualified in another for impeding a competitor. François Hamelin, meanwhile, qualified for the 500-metre final tomorrow and for the 1,000-metres quarter-final today.

Racer from Yellowknife looks to make his mark Marc Weber, The Province Published: Thursday, October 23, 2008
Canadian short track speed skater Michael Gilday is hoping to stand out on the ice as much as he does in his team's media guide.
In a rink flooded with slick Quebec skaters at this weekend's World Cup event at the Pacific Coliseum, the 21-year-old from Yellowknife represents a rarity, even more for his northern roots than his western ones.
There aren't too many elite athletes who call the Northwest Territories home, former Canucks forward Geoff Sanderson (Hay River) one of the more prominent.
Asked to name the most famous, Gilday offers the Firth sisters, Shirley and Sharon, not exactly household names to most Canadians despite being four-time Winter Olympians in cross-country skiing.
Anyone who makes a national team is a big deal back home.
"I get phenomenal support in Yellowknife and across the Territories and I'm grateful for that," said Gilday, who was born in Iqaluit (now the capital of Nunavut) but moved to Yellowknife at age two. "The government has a great program for amateur-athlete support and I'm really proud to be representing the NWT as well as Canada."
Gilday was an avid cross-country skier growing up and figures he spent only half as much time speed skating as his current rivals. Clearly he's a quick learner.
He grabbed headlines last fall when he set a 1,000-metre world record at Calgary's Olympic Oval, his base since high school, and participated in two World Cup events as a member of Canada's development team.
He's hoping to reap the benefits of a full season on the World Cup circuit leading into the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
"In the Olympic year there's not a lot of people who jump out of nowhere, so you want to establish yourself," he said.
"This weekend, I want to make some 'A' finals and contend for some medals."

Hi All; I promised to check on whether or not there was a web cam at the Coliseum and whether they could turn it on. So, I bugged both the BC Speed Skating and VANOC people today and finally got an answer in the late afternoon. Here it is: No there will be no web cam coverage of WC #2 A deal has been cut with CBC ( Canadian Broadcasting Company) to film and broadcast highlights of this event ( likely exclusive rights)... ***This highlight broadcast will be aired Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. pacific time on CBC. You might want to check to see if CBC is available on your cable program. So sorry, I tried really hard, and had so hoped to tell you where you could tune in tomorrow, but as I've learned over many years, when you ask a question, you should be prepared to hear either a yes or a no. This time it was a no. But we had an incredible day and there will be pictures and maybe even a video clip to post once everyone gets home and has time to process it all. Yes, we got pictures of Apolo and nearly all the team, both U.S. and Canadian. It was a long day. We were at the Coliseum from about 8:30 until after 6..then a big challenge getting out of the parking lot, and we finally got to dinner, tired, hungry but happy at a wonderful day. Of course it's Friday night and all the restaurants were crowded but after a long wait we sat down to another wonderful meal together. It's midnight and I just got home. So more later... All in all we all experienced the OFF and were amazed. Several of us had a chance to talk with Yuki as well as Apolo at different times so all in all it was a stupendous day! Once again, so sorry about the lack of webcam or tv coverage. I know how frustrating it is when you are left with flashing numbers only! More soon, Musical Mom
