A sea of Reutter's Rooters. Katherine's family and friends came from far and wide to attend. (Actually, truth be told, Katherine did a great deal of her early training in the area. She's a fan favorite no matter where you go!) Reutter's littlest rooter. We went to Old Downtown St. Charles in between competitions. This is a quaint historic town that was the original state capital at one time. As you can see, the whole town was dressed up for Christmas, and we had a wonderful time just strolling down the streets and seeing the sites. Scrooge, Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchit. Caroler's in downtown St Charles. One Toy Soldier Lunch at The Magpie, a restaurant in a vintage 1821 house on Main Street. JL, Lori and Debbief This is your World and World Cup Team for the rest of the 2008-09 season. Back Row: Lana Gehring, Allison Baver. Katherine Reutter, Jessica Smith and Kimberly Derrick Front Row: Ryan Bedford, Jeff Simon, Apolo, JR Celski and Jordan Malone. Congrats to all who made the team. Great to see Jordan back in the pack and what a gritty, gutsy performance by Jeff. You're all heart, Jeff! A valiant effort by Travis, but still just missing out on the World Team. Anthony and Ryan L. - I doubt there are any words we could say to make you feel better. Chin up guys, we're still rooting for you. Keep your eye on the Olympic Trials. I've got more photos to post, but in the meantime.. Merry Christmas to All... ...and to All a Good Night ~

Lori, are they still skating the 3000 in international competition? I thought they did away with that last season. Thanks everyone for the great comments and pictures. I'm so sorry Allison came in 4th....I think the coachs have some leaway as to who gets to skate those individual races in WC 5 & 6 although it seems intuitive that the top two will skate those distances. Baver is 27 and I'm wanting to see her pull out some magic before she retires. She's quite a gal.

Did anyone else see that? AAO grabbing someone? Hmmmm... I certainly didn't. From our perspective no one was near enough to him to be grabbed. He fell, slid and then knocked the others down. He was flat on the ice the whole time. I did kind of wonder how the other guys didn't see him coming at them. Perhaps it happened too fast for them to get out of his way. Or perhaps their reflexes just aren't as good as Apolo's who once jumped over a skater who fell down directly in front of him about a nanosecond before he got there. hmmm...interesting. thank you, august. and yes, THE jump is bow-worthy. that's one of my favorite clips to watch. :]

Rumor was that Apolo's injury was a knee - he stayed after for quite some time mingling with the fans, and he lugged his equipment into the hotel, so it must not be too serious. Arrgh. I hate that I missed that "meet and greet". Justsayin' and I had to high-tail it out of the rink to catch our flight. I heard that Apolo cut his knee in that 500 melee, and (rumor has it) that it needs to be further assessed. But if he's lugging his own gear, it can't be TOO bad, right? Jerry Search was shooting in continuous mode during the first crash in the 500, and I got a good look at his amazing photos. Apolo caught his right toe-pick, went down hard on his knees, and did a face-plant onto the ice. J.R. caught something (his glove?) on Apolo's rear blade and was flipped over and up into the air like a pancake. He was completely airborne. Apolo put up his open palm to Travis's leg (but most certainly did not grab him.) It looked like he was trying to keep Travis, unsuccessfully, out of the path of destruction and to maintain space between the two of them. Travis took his own tumble, then Apolo went hard into the boards. The call that was initially made was nothing short of absurd. The officials finally came to see just that. It was an unusual race, to say the least! Jeff was obviously in a lot of pain all weekend, but hopefully he'll be able to rest and recuperate over the holidays. He skated with a lot of grit despite his injury.

I don't think anyone's seen this video that, I guess, one of J.R.'s friend's did about him for his film class. At least I would think it is his friend considering the shots: www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4vlzA0yjfU

Thank You Number 1 for the kudos, but in reading the posts, (and re-reading mine) I realized ....this IS an Apolo fansite, and I hardly posted any pictures of him! (how rude of me) The slight was unintentional, but I have good reason.... I really didn't take that many of him because: A) The incomparable Jerry Search was there, not to mention Lily, Lil and Susie, with telephoto lenses that are taller than I am...and well ...I mean, seriously...unless the skaters are standing still, mine hardly come close to comparing. and B) I'm really, REALLY embarassed to admit this, but in exchange for a camera with a better zoom capability, it does have one truly obnoxious feature, which is if I don't take the shot in what the camera considers a reasonable amount of time, it reverts back to the default- which is with the flash on. Unbeknownst to me, the camera did just that, and proceeded to fire off a photo - with flash - just as the whole pack of America's finest were coming out of the corner at mach 10. Double I was so horrified and mortified, I put myself in the naughty corner and banished myself from taking any more pictures for the rest of the competition. And to those skaters I blinded, I am truly sorry! I didn't mean it! ...and I'll duct tape the flash down so it CAN'T fire from now on - even when the camera is tempermental or I'm a dork! Please feel free to rip off my arms and beat me with them the next time you see me.... From left to right: J.R., Jeff, Robert Lawrence, Ryan Bedford, Apolo and Barry Winslow at the start of the 1500m And they're off!

We're all curious - how much of the 'hoo-ha' between races (the controversial double-500m) did y'all see on the webcam??? EDIT: Lily and Mtnme have some GREAT pictures, including one from Lily showing the aftermath of one of Jeff's races... Good Morning everyone! We're about to leave our airport hotel for the flight home. This is the first chance I've had to be here at GA. I didn't bring my laptop (to conserve space/weight)... so I can't share any photos until I get home. Then I'll post the pic of Jeff... it is bitter/sweet b/c he is in pain, but it shows his joy too! Thanks everyone, for sharing your pics!!! ;D
