Funny that you should mention Stephen King and short stories. I am currently reading his newest release, which is called "Just After Sunset" and what it is is a collection of his short stories.
If only I had Stephen's talent. But then, he and I write about two different things.....

I love when he comes out with short stories...I am a member on the Stephen King message board and some members enjoy trying to track down his earliest works in magazines because he always used different names..since he was a teacher he did try to publish to much under his name.

Oh well, since you're a Stephen King fan like I am you must of read "Duma Key" too. What did you think of that one? I LOVED IT! I just hope that if they make a movie of it, they don't screw it up. I couldn't put that book down when I was reading it, but was so bummed it was over when it ended. I really loved the relationship between Edgar and Wireman. I really felt like they were "real" people and I could picture them both in my head. I cried so hard when Wireman died. I had such high hopes for the two of them making a go of things. A great book to get sucked up into, that's for sure.

OMG!!!!! I loved Duma Key..I wanted it to go on forever!! But you know Stephen is great at pulling the rug out from under you!
I do hope they make a movie...but some times his movies can really be a hit or miss so I am hoping if they do make a movie AND that its good!!

Speaking of short stories...I think "The Long Walk" was the single frickin' scariest thing I've ever read. A friend of mine worked for a NYC publishing house back in the day. Her description of what it was like when Stephen King would come into town to do business was kind of like how WE are when Apolo's in da' house. LOL "All eyes are locked onto him." A cousin of mine lives near him in Maine. Interesting stories there, too.

He appears regularly on his site to say what he is reading and the movies he has watched as well as the televison shows he watches. He is supposed to be a really nice guy.

Wow, so much talkin' goin' on since I left last, okay, first things first... Number1fan, hell yeah, isn't Karl HAWT? And man oh man, if you can catch an interview with him in his native New Zealand or somewhere else and that accent! The reason I say this is because when he's doing one here in America, you can scarcely hear his accent at all. I think it's because he wants to become a bigger star here in America ( he's a HUGE star in New Zealand ), and he wants to let any casting people that may be out in the audience know that he can speak "American" if he has to. I am a sucker for a sexy accent, especially if it's coming out of a gorgeous man like that! I don't know how to make animations. I've got several "Karl addicted" friends like I am who make them and let me use them. I even have one's that are not icons but just really cool animations I use from time to time as siggies. It's his fanboard I am at most of the time. I've been into Karl since the LOTR movies. Me and some of the women on that board are d**ned near like family now. Laura and Susie: yeah, Stephen is supposed to be a really cool, laid back kind of guy. I was so freakin' upset when he got hit a few years back and was almost killed! Good God, he was only walking along the side of the road. Stupid people! I'm glad he pulled through it all okay. One of my friends who gets Entertainment Weekly says he does a regular column on there, talking about his favorite music, movies, etc. She's posted some of them on her Live Journal. I don't agree with all of his choices, but many of them. I'd love to talk to him about character development. He's so good at that. Well Laura, after I am done with this story I'm doing now, since you and six other people have told me I should see about submitting it somewhere to get published, I'm going to do it. Yep. Hey, I won't know until I try, right? I'll let you know what happens, if anything. And, if they like it well then NO MORE fanfiction for this woman. It will be one of a kind, unique stories from now on, just like my newest story is. But I'm not trashing fanfiction. Hey, it got me to write, period. I owe a lot to it and to my first muse, Viggo Mortensen ( who played Aragorn in the LOTR movies) and to the person I wrote the MOST fanfiction about, Karl Urban, the hottest Kiwi on the planet!

Thanks for the karma, babe. And that's only about half of them. I have so many more! I love the way he talks with his hands all the time. Even though he's of German descent, I'm wondering if there is some Latin in there somewhere. I'm half Mexican and I have Italian friends. We Latin blooded like to talk with our hands a lot. And as you can see, Karl does, too. God, what nice, lovely, large hands he has ( well, he is rather tall, he's 6'1 ). I'm just trying to get more people into Karl. He's been paying his dues in the "Hollywood system" for awhile and he really needs to get more meatier, high profile parts. He's such a good actor and such a strong presence, as you can see for yourself. As we like to say at the Urbanites board where it's my "second home" on the internet; "it's all about sharing the Karl love!" Some of my favorite movies of his that he's done, though, are his earlier New Zealand movies. Some are hard to find here, so friends from "afar" have burned copies for me, but some are available at good ol' Amazon.com What I'd really like to happen for Karl is what has happened with Johnny Depp; Johnny and Tim Burton make some killer movies together and keep getting together to do them. They are like each others muses. Karl needs to find his muse of a director and he can be that directors muse of an actor. That would be freakin' awesome if you ask me!

Though you are not the only one who has said it. If I really thought I was that good, I would see if I could get it published, but I'm not sure there is a "market" for fanfiction. Hey Amy, I have never read anything that you've written, but you should send in some of your fanfics to see if they get published. Three of my friends got their fanfics published, and they just tinkered with the names of characters to make it less fanfictional(if that's a word).

Laura and Number1fan! ;D Yay! Some Karl converts! Mellie: I hear what you are saying and I could do that, I guess on a "few" of my fics. But the ones that I've written about a few of Karl's characters he's done in some of his movies would be harder to do. The situations would still be too close to a character that someone has already written for him. One has to be very careful about that, otherwise you can be sued ( I forget what the "technical" term is, but I think it's along the lines of copyright infringement ). Which is really too bad. Some of those stories where I have continued on where the movies left off are some of my more "inspired" writings. It makes me wonder if I somehow got permission from the screenwriters of the stories ( if I sent them what I'd done ) and we could cut a deal of some sort, like 50-50 of the profits ( or some other "reasonable" settlement, like 60-40, the least I'd do would be 70-30 ). But realistically, I've never heard of it being done. In fact, one of my favorite writers, George R.R. Martin, whose work I love and respect, thinks that fanfiction is bad for writers because they don't use their own characters and did not come up with the original idea themselves. He thinks it's junk food for lazy writers. To each their own, I guess.
