this is probably a stupid question but how do you make one of the avatars that are above yours? like put it into your profile?

Are you wanting to make the avatar? All you have to do, really, to make an avatar is make a 100x100 image in a program like Photoshop, or even Paint. Avatars can be smaller than that, of course, but the largest it can be is 100x100. To set it as your avatar for the forum, upload it to a site that hosts pictures (flickr, imageshack, etc.) and then put the URL under Profile/Modify Profile/Avatar URL. Hope that makes sense! If not, let me know and I'll try to rephrase.
