I love that picture! Thanks for posting it. I read that Laila wrenched her back picking up Apolo (well, he jumped into her arms so she really just caught him rather than picking him up, which is a lot easier.) Apolo said on Larry King that he gained 3 1/2 pounds during dwts which would put him close to 170. I wonder if Laila realized he was heavier than he looks! And hope her back's o.k. She herself weighed about 172 I think I read somewhere, and she's two or three inches taller than he is. Hey Laila, he's solid, like a rock! (Guess she found that out, the hard way

hmmm... i never learned that fact either. i always thought that they lost weight? or maybe it's that he gained muscle. becuase muscle weighs more than fat. i read an article about how joey, miss ali, and one other person actually lost weight sorry that this is going off topic a bit

I've got two sources about Apolo's weight lifting, and one is a great one (the other one just a post on message board - although I'm almost positive I read that same thing in an article/interview with Apolo somewhere).
From p. 84 of Apolo's autobiography, "A Journey" published in 2002:
"...Over the winter I'd started to change my technique and focus on consistency instead of speed. I did tons of weight training and my legs were really huge -- I was pressing about 1500 pounds. I was strong but I was weighing in at 180 instead of my usual 160 pounds, and I felt heavy on the ice. I had the power to pull away from other skaters to the front of the pack, but after each race I was dead and had a hard time recovering...."
And on a message board (Apolianne?), a poster said:
"...I was watching the interview clip that showed him working out with weights as part of his speed skating training. I cannot even fathom being able to press 700 lbs of weight with one leg. That is the most he has ever pressed. He regularly presses 550 lbs of weight with one leg. He works out for up to 3 hours twice a day in non-Olympic years. This is separate from the time he spends rehearsing the dances. I have to say that I am in awe of his work ethic."
