Coincidentally, this reminded me of you (Ruffian & Fugly) FOOLING OURSELVES "Inherent human bias is reflected in studies that show that the average person believes they are less biased and more ethical than others (in addition to being smarter and thinner). That is, we tend to see ourselves as ethical and unbiased, but believe that not so much to be the case for others." This is only part of the article Courtesy The San Diego Union-Tribune, Friday, August 25, 2006 wow. it's freaky, MG, how quickly you've absorb Mama Davis's lessons! I spent the night (all four hours) psyco-analyzing myself and the fooling oneself post. Trying to read between lines and make sense of the hostility that was lurking and pouncing last night. I 'm still confused and can't decipher the above comment either. Maybe my irony meter is pegged because all I could come up with is sighting a study like that kind of proves the point, doesn't it? I also meditated on Apolo, which was a lot more fun, to make sure I was on this site honestly. Nobody likes a downer heckler on a fan site, I agree, with Billey there. I realized - - I do love his glorious hair and would give quite a bit to run my fingers thru it and have some just like it - His smile is devastating - His ginormous glutes are a wonder to behold - I dream about those incredible thighs - HIs nose is a work of art - His skating blisses me out - I love his taste in music as a hip-hop and or R&B soundtrack is often running thru my mind when I work out or watch him skate and it just fits, nasty though the lyrics almost always are - I'm OK with his pimped out ride with massive sound system. There might not be room in the back for a comfortable fantasy but there is room behind the steering wheel and there's always the roof with the base pumping underneath. - I don't care who he dates be it Allison, Paris Hilton or Creswell (sp?) although, I do think Shani looks better in the gold chain - I do care whether he skates again because former athletes fade into obscurity, they don't pose for Cosmo covers and because his skating blisses me out, but I already said that - Of course he can and should do whatever he wants and needs to do and thinks is right and I support his right to that as well as my right to be disappointed. In fact, the only thing that could turn me off of Apolo is to hear he was following his idol, Lance's philosophies and enhancing. I admit, I'm getting real paranoid about that with one athletic scandal after another.

"I can't help but note that "no evidence" of rigging the race at Nationals is nothing remotely like "innocent" of the charges"
It wasn't a trial--no one was charged with anything. It was an investigation to see if there was evidence of any wrongdoing. No evidence was found.
Somewhere in the vast Ohnozone archives is the transcript of a sports show where this topic was discussed. I don't think the arbitrator was actually on the program, but they talked about his findings.
After talking to the three "witnesses" who supposedly overheard Apolo and Rusty talking, he ruled that there was no evidence to support the race fixing allegation. In other words, their stories did not support each other.
O'Hare didn't go on to have much of a career. Apparently he had to hope that others skated poorly or were thrown off the team in order to move up in rank. Speed skating isn't for the faint of heart, or whiners.
Ohno! I'm talking about Apolo on an Apolo thread. I must be hijacking it!

Practicing bias control now, because even though Apolo is my man, I try to keep an open and intelligent mind - You don't think it was amazingily coincidental that that race came out exactly as it had to even though the finishing order was preposterously unlikely and Rusty, Shanii, and Apolo all got exactly what they wanted and needed out of it? You don't credit Apolo with being good enough to fix a race in a grouping that he is the undisputed master of? You don't think Apolo, who has made a passion of studying team skating can't practice it? Sure, OHare was a whiner and would have been week man on the team but so was Shani (weak man on the team, I mean). He never even skated in the Olympics (and actually did whine about that a bit) and went on to have only a limited ST career (but an amazing LT career and he is just getting started.) Ohare was a whiner who wanted to be on the team but what is the reason for the other witnesses claiming Apolo and Rusty collaborated? ? They made the team anyway. As for the USOC arbitrater finding "no evidence" it would have been a nightmare for him to find it - the two best guys on the team would have been banned from competing in the Olympics. Apolo was predicted to possibly sweep the medals. Both Apolo and Rusty did medal and Apolo put ST on the map. Realistically how hard was the poor guy looking for evidence??? When all he found and all he could have found was hearsay and mighty suspicious, but not impossible, results of a race of course he let it slide. What else could he do? BTW Why would I mind you talking about Apolo on an Apolo thread? ? I don't mind you hijacking it either so long as the topic is interesting.

Fugly - so glad you joined. I love your list of "realizations" and I share many of them. MT - very realistic and objective assessment. Billiey - thanks for being johnny on the spot with the facts. I love your "nunsense" attitude. Maria - I'm not sure where you were coming from, but I generally appreciate your posts and the information/pictures you bring to us. I think I've extended the invitation before, but I'd love to see you join. We're about so much more than Apolo fandom here and the variety of discussions and opinions is growing daily. There's room for all here. Bowie - HHOOOOOWWWWWLLLLL! *Bella howls at the return of a lost member of pack* (your accident description was hilarious) Laura - What up, dog?

espn.go.com/page2/tvlistings/show98transcript.htmlJust for information, if you go to Wikipedia and type in Shani's name there is a bit mentioned about the race and several who supported Shani's decision. Also, at the end of the article is the above link from ESPN and the fix. Just interesting reading and additional views on the subjects.

Lets say it together then, "Ahhhhhhh"

oh don't do it don't do it. He finally got his tie tied right and everything and it is like one of those perfect wrapped packages or decorated cakes. You just want to gaze at it and never muss it up, never mind what is inside.......
To hell with that, rip those pretty duds off and show him your appreciation!!!! Then he can put them on again and you can start all over.

Duchess, pick the canadians! Pick them, pick them, pick them!
Speaking of Rusty, I love him (even tho his 2002 olympic hair was...whack). I also just read something about Joey Cheek and (until I hear he's doing the nasty with groupies in parking lots) appears to be God's adorable earth angel.
